Everyone remembers my love (okay fetish) with Oreos while pregnant. This totally explains Lucas's asking for "cook-ees" every time he passes the pantry door. He even knows what the bag looks like so we can't hide it!
I gave him an Oreo a while ago just to see if he would eat it. Of course my house is NEVER without a bag of Oreos. (Friends and Family are completely aware of this and come over for Oreos) He really didn't care about it at all. This upset me a tad since they are my favorite but then I thought more for me! He did like daddys Nutter Butters.
Since then he has had them and now LOVES them himself. Even started asking "cook-ee?" I love how one word becomes an entire sentence in a toddlers world. At first he could only have one cookie and he had to be in his hair chair. Now he is allowed 2 (mama has to have one according to Lucas) and he sits in his leather arm chair like daddys. The actually eating of the cookie makes a mess and usually ends with a "carla no." He likes to break open the cookie and eat all of the filling out just like everyone else, he then will suck on the cookie part and throw it to the dogs. Well they don't seem to understand this process and they like to get at the cookie while he is still eating the cream.
After Oreos we usually have to have a bath. There is cookie everywhere and I have the answer as to why Carla is not losing any weight:)

YAY! Cats!!! We are in the final four!
This weekend was full of basketball, just like the last few but it was AWESOME! Very nerve-racking but really exciting. UK is headed to Houston! At the beginning of the season no one would have thought that we would be excited for the final four. I was thinking that we would be watching some other schools participate and prepare for football season. NO WAY!
We made it to one game this year...........

I also have to take a moment and brag.....In the family bracket challenge Lucas and I are in the lead! We are the only ones that had faith in blue!

Choosing a daycare is like choosing a college.........
Yikes!
We just started at a new daycare center this week. It was our number one pick and we are glad that we made the switch. Now here is our daycare story.........
When we were 4-5 months pregnant we started searching for centers in the area. We called, visited, toured, asked questions, etc. This took weeks. Neither of us realized that we could and should be on lists that early! It was crazy. After all of that we decided on two places to get on the waiting lists. One was a church that our family had used in the past for daycare and another was a center that came with really high recommendations. Our list was 1. the center and 2. the church.
Fast forward to Lucas (May 09). Thank goodness by the time he was here and my maternity leave was up we decided that Nana Daycare would be the best for him and our family. So he started going to Nanas house every day. We all knew that by the time he was 2 or sooner we would need to find him a daycare at least part of the time. In Lexington, part-time almost does not exist! Its full time or nothing! We finally received a call in October when he was 5 months old that he got in at our number 1 choice. We weren't ready for the change and either was nana so we passed not knowing how long it would take to get another call. It had already been 10 months since adding our name to the list the first time.
Fast forward to October 2010. We decided that we needed to get him in daycare so of course we called around and our 2 favs we were "first on the list" but still no spot. We found another center with wonderful hours, a few really nice people and not our favorite location but it was a daycare. He was learning to be with other kids, sending home art work and excelling at things. He actually started talking so much after starting there it was amazing to see what being around others would bring out in him!
We were set at least until our number 1 called us is what we decided. Well in February 2011 we got a call from the church and we were in. So after a couple of hours (thats all we had) we decided to take the spot. This was after debating, calling our number 1 to find out we were still not in, etc. The whole thing felt weird to me. Everyone has said that moms can tell, they can tell when something isn't right, its just a hunch or a gut feeling that something is not right with their baby. Well I felt that the whole time. I know that we had family and friends that had grown up in that church school but our experience was not the same. 3 weeks into starting there our number 1 called and we were in. We really didn't want to mess up Lucas and his schedule but mama gut said to change. We debated for 24 full hours, sat on the couch writing pros and cons, making phone calls for references, problems, etc. But finally we decided that we needed to change.
We did and we are glad. Not that we don't want him brought up in church (which we have started attending as a family:)) it was just not a fit with the administration, etc. I had many issues yet I was supposed to leave my baby there all day with them? So Lucas started at the new place this week and has been the happiest little boy. I would notice after picking him up from the church is was fussy and grumpy, well with this place he is happy and content. I know we are only one week in but I think we really made the right decision.
Things we considered were similar to colleges. He would be there at least until kindergarten and he would be with the same friends until then. We needed somewhere close to home so it would be easy for both of us at drop off and pick up, we needed better hours than the church offered and more open days. (my office and landscaping doesn't close for President's Day) With the amount of money that you have to pay for care (its totally worth every penny) you also have to feel comfortable with where you child is, who they are with, and make it fit with your family.
Maybe I should have titled this Mamas intuition but both are fitting. Everyone needs to make sure that they research, visit, stop by unexpectedly to check on things and really really talk to everyone you know about daycares and centers. My major fear was taking Lucas somewhere where he wasn't happy and I was messing him up forever! I am very happy with our change. This morning as he was walking out the door to go to school with daddy he yelled............
bye mama and blew me a kiss!

I love spring.
We love to hang out in our backyard and my wonderful husband has created a beautiful area for us to relax and enjoy. It is constantly a work in progress as each year something new "appears." Last night the weather was beautiful and the three of us played. We ate dinner on the back porch together and planned how many breakfasts and dinners we can have out there. We added the canopy last year and it was the nicest addition ever. Now we are covered from the sun and weather and can still enjoy outside. Lucas LOVES it! After dinner we decided to start a fire in which Lucas wanted us to turn it off. Inside our fireplace has a remote but outside well you can see.....
So after explaining we just can't turn it off, we ran and screamed through the yard (for fun of course) The dogs chased us, brought us sticks and toys to throw and we just had a wonderful family night.
After Lucas laid down, Jimmy and I enjoyed snacks on the back porch and caught up on some of our TV. I know we are exciting. The best part was all of the talks of building on to the house, building a tree house for Lucas, and other plans for our future.
I am so glad Spring is HERE! (unfortunately the weather is supposed to take a turn for the worse for the next week and we will have to play inside again)

It ended with me having to go inside because the mess was getting to me.....The boys decided to move some plants around. Mama couldn't handle the mess anymore and both boys had to strip down before thinking about entering the house!

Birthday Party Planning has begun.
I thought I had it all thought out, the plans, the decor, the cake, the date, etc. But then I came up with another theme and now I am torn. I have run the ideas by a couple of people lately and both are great. I am thinking about going back with the first idea for two reasons:
1. It was my first idea
2. because the second idea although cute will be more fun for the little ones another year (at least I think)
So here I am over analyzing the date again too, oh the pressures of a 2 years birthday party. I plan parties for a living you think I could handle this one! I will keep you posted!

Spring is Here!
Us Gaunces we love to play outside. This past weekend it was beautiful and we played and played. We even needed sunscreen. I have also been playing with my pictures so I hope you don't mind me sharing.
As you can see we had a ton of fun! To top it off the CATS won on Saturday so we are headed to the sweet 16! Now to see if we can stay up and watch the game Friday night. We even have Lucas yelling "Blue" or "Cats" at the TV.
We planned out a lot of around the house chores and things to do this spring and summer. Why does it seem like the list grows and grows and we never will have it finished. A few of the things on the list are:

We planned out a lot of around the house chores and things to do this spring and summer. Why does it seem like the list grows and grows and we never will have it finished. A few of the things on the list are:
- paint the back of the house (since the front and two sides have been done for almost 2 years now)
- change out the doors throughout the house
- get screens for the two windows that need them
- get new windows
- paint two rooms
- put flooring in Lucas's bathroom
- take down wallpaper and "redo" the kitchen
- fix the driveway
- fix the chimney
- clean out the attic
- and the long list of things that Jim wants to do outside ;)
As homeowners it never ends......as homeowners of a 30 year old house, something pops up EVERY day that needs to be fixed or repaired before we can do the "wants" to the house. So we look forward to a bunch of odds and ends to be done this spring and summer.
In the meantime we will enjoy the time we are not working on something every minute of the day and open windows while we can. It always makes the house seem fresher!!!
Happy Spring!

SEC Champs!
Oh this weekend was full of basketball fun! It really makes a fan excited when everything just starts to get in line and actually work out! Jim was lucky and able to get tickets to every game! I even got a t-shirt!
Lucas and I stayed and watched the games at Nanas. I have him cheering "go blue" and pumping his fist. It is just the cutest thing ever! Now we are moving on to the NCAA tournament and we will see how far we can make it there! Hopefully all the way!
I tried to record this but Lucas was more interested in the camera then the game :)

The Gaunce Adventures of the BIG BOY BED!
Since our schedule was all messed up from sleeping in bed with mom and dad, napping in a big bed all alone and sleeping in a car overnight two nights we decided to make the change when we returned. Its time for the big boy bed!
he seems to be comfy
Now we have more interesting stories to share. One morning I was in the shower and next thing you know the curtain swung open "Hi mama!" I told him good morning and to go climb in bed with daddy. He did. I found him and Jimmy snuggling in bed and Jimmy told me that he climbed in bed looking for me first and then the bathroom.
Move on to this morning...........I was sound asleep and comfy in my bed when all of a sudden about 2 inches from my face I got a "hi momma" I saw that it was 4:30 am so I tried to talk him into going back to bed. Well I got "up momma" and he climbed down. Jimmy rolled over and said "Don't you love that he wants you" I was thinking no you love that he wants me because you can just roll over! We headed into Lucas's room only to be told to "sit momma" in our rocking chair. He climbed in bed and 5 minutes later was sound asleep.
I know this is just the beginning of the freedom my little man has. I really hope that he continues to grow and learn. Each day brings us something new and we love watching him grow, even though we have a big boy now!
crazy times.........
Sorry its been a while but we have been crazy.....Sick, surprise trip to Wisconsin, starting a new school for Lucas, deciding on another school for Lucas, etc. Finally we are all better, settled and I have a new part time job. (Thanks Dad!)
He sent us home with a bunch of old manuals for machines. We are cleaning them up and selling on ebay. I never knew that it was this easy, yet time consuming. I really think that by the time we are through all of them that we will be pros at it!
We were also able to hang out with dear friends. Not nearly enough time but at least we got to meet their new additions. Love you Ali and family!!! During our 42 hours in Wisconsin we did a lot!!!! (sorry we look so tired, we drove overnight and tried to stay awake as much as possible)

As we were helping dad go through things since he hasn't since he moved in 11 years ago, we found a lot of interesting things. Now now many accordions does your house have? Well dad has 3!!
Yes I have video of this!
More pictures of the fun....
he liked the accordions, this was just for fun.
poppa time
we woke up to this?
playing with poppa
napping in poppas big bed
Now we are back home and more changes here. We started a new school right before leaving and it is just not working out. We did not feel that it was the right fit so we are changing to another school and we start on the 21st. We are really excited about it as it was our number 1 on our list that we visited!!!
